Amphenol XLR Kit to Make Speaker Cable for Vox JMI & Thomas Amp Heads & Cabinets

$ 8.98

  • Amplifier Type: Cabinet
  • Brand: Vox

Description

Auction is for the parts needed to make your own speaker cable to connect your British or American Vox amp head to its speaker cabinet. Included are 3 sealed Amphenol female 3-pin XLRs. Although only 2 are needed to make your cable, I am including an extra one to practice on or for parts since the set screw is very small and easily lost. Or you can use the third one to make an XLR to 1/4" adapter with a spare guitar amp cord. Also included is 4 feet of Skar 14 gauge premium speaker wire. You can search YouTube for any number of videos on how to properly solder these XLR style connectors to speaker wire. However, the videos I have seen so far are for microphone cables which are shielded, but there is no shielding used on the Vox speaker XLR cables. For the Vox XLR, the single #3 pin usually found on the bottom is considered positive (+) and the 2 upper #1 and #2 parallel pins are negative (-) and bridged or tied together. Second to l ast photo shows how the corresponding XLR male panel Amphenol and Switchcraft connectors are wired on the back in Vox Thomas amp heads. Last photo shows the wiring on a vintage Switchcraft female cable which was difficult to photograph without cutting and destroying the cable. A red wire is soldered to the bottom single + pin and a black wire is soldered to one of the upper parallel - pins and then bridged to the other - pin. When passing the speaker cable through the XLR shell, it is not necessary to remove the 2 large rear screws. Just remove the set screw which, as mentioned, can be easy to lose since it is very small. Shipping in the continental US is included in the auction price.
